Add the MedSoc Calendar to a Mobile Device

The MedSoc events calendar can be added to any device which supports the iCal calendar format. The sections below detail how the calendar can be added to Apple and Android devices. Other device platforms are not officially supported by MedSoc - users of other platforms must seek advice elsewhere for details on adding a calendar to their device.

  3. Select "Other", then "Add Subscribed Calendar".
  4. Enter the iCal address into the "Server" box, then select "Next".
  5. Enter a name for the calendar in the "Description" box.
  6. Select "Save" and the calendar will be added to your device.

Android Devices

For this guide, you will need the MedSoc iCal address, which is https://www.google.com/calendar/ical/la1jvlg80osjvctojojlkuvdd0%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics. Then, you'll need to:

  1. Go to Google Calendar from a desktop PC and log in to the account you use to sync calendars to your device.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to "Other calendars" and select "Add by URL".
  3. Enter the iCal address into the "URL" box and select "Add Calendar".
  4. On your Android device, open the "Calendar" app, go to settings and select "Calendars to display".
  5. Check the MedSoc iCal address and the calendar will be added to your device.
  6. If the calendar is not visible, ensure that the MedSoc iCal address is also checked on the "Calendars to sync" screen, which is accessible from the "Calendars to display" screen.
  7. If the calendar is still not visible after taking this step, go to "Settings" from your home screen, then select "Google" under "Accounts and sync". Ensure that the Google account you added the calendar to is set to sync with the Android Calendar app. If it is, the calendar will update when your device next syncs.
